Pennine Trophy 2018

The Pennine Trophy is an annual backgammon tournament commencing with the first Bradford tournament in January and ending with the Manchester tournament in December.
There will be 3 seperate main leagues, Bradford, Manchester and a combination of the two

Following the success of the last 3 years the competition will continue in 2018 with some minor changes to reward both good play and attendance.

Change #1 - Due to the ever increasing attendances, all monthly tournaments will start at 11.30am prompt (Last registrations taken at 11.25am)

Change #2 - New for 2018. There will also be 3 seperate consolation/last chance leagues, Bradford, Manchester and a combination of the two. This change replaces the lucky dip draw.

Change #3 - 35% of the registration fees (less admin/trophies) will be given as prizes to the top 6 qualifying* players in the Bradford and Manchester leagues with the following split - 25% for main leagues, 10% for consolation leagues

Change #4 - The balance of the registration fees (less admin/trophies) will be given as added prize money at the 4 bonus tournaments throughout the year (approx. £1580.00 based on 2017 entries) with the following split - 80% for main tournament, 20% for consolation tournament.

As the money used to fund this competition is coming from registration fees (i.e. the more events you attend the more you contribute) there will be an eligibility criteria.

*To qualify for the annual prize monies and trophies players must have attended either 12 of the 2018 Pennine trophy tournaments or 8 of the 2018 tournaments held at the relevant venue.

Previously the registration fees were retained by the tournament directors.

2. Most events won
3. Most matches won

Entry fees and prizes

£5 registration (100% return less any promotional/admin costs will go towards trophies and cash prizes for annual/bonus competitions)
£10 entry fee. Winner 75% Runner up 25%. (100% return, no rake)

Optional £10 side pools. Winner takes all unless involved players agree a split. (100% return, no rake)

Based on the 2017 average of just over 25 players per tournament, registration fees collected would be £3045. If £380 were needed for promotional costs, admin and trophies this would leave £2665 for cash prizes to be awarded as follows:

25% (£665) for the Pennine main competition to be split between the top 6 players of the Bradford and Manchester main leagues as follows:

1st = £90, 2nd = £70, 3rd = £60, 4th = £50, 5th = £40, 6th = £25.

10% (£265) for the Pennine consolation competition to be split between the top 6 players of the Bradford and Manchester consolation leagues as follows:

1st = £35, 2nd = £30, 3rd = £25, 4th = £20, 5th = £15, 6th = £10.

Trophies for top 3 in Pennine league and winners of Bradford and Manchester leagues (Main and consolation).

*To qualify for the annual prize monies and trophies players must have attended either 12 of the 2018 Pennine trophy tournaments or 8 of the 2018 tournaments held at the relevant venue.

**Players can only win one cash award and or trophy per league at the same venue and if that happens the higher prize will be given. For example a player finishes 6th in Bradford main league (prize £25) and 2nd in Bradford consolation league (prize £30) he will be awarded the £30 prize and the player finishing 7th in main league will be promoted to 6th place and receive £25.
